Mike Brennan

Chief Executive Officer – Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC)

Mike brings 26 years of executive leadership and a proven track record of operational success in the not-for-profit sector as well as turnarounds in for-profit companies in North America. He holds a Master of Business from Carleton University in Ottawa and possesses a strong business acumen encompassing strategic planning, collaborative change management, and business process improvement. Throughout his career, he has focused on reducing operating costs and diversifying revenue streams while increasing performance and productivity.

In addition to a solid business foundation, including in banking and manufacturing, Mike has an understanding of and commitment to the not-for-profit sector. His expertise takes in governance, fundraising, volunteers, advocacy, grant writing, stakeholder engagement and program implementation. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.

As a senior executive Gerrie Doyle has achieved a highly successful track record of delivering mission-critical projects that are large-scale and multi-disciplinary. A proactive and high-energy Senior Project Manager / Architect with excellent communication skills, from corporate boardrooms to construction sites.

Gerrie has provided her senior project manager services to several high-profile projects including the Parliamentary Precinct Branch (PPB) Ottawa, Sir John A. MacDonald Building, Ottawa, Ottawa International Airport and The Canada Science & Technology Museum. She also currently chairs a Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) committee.

Toon Dreessen is a graduate of Carleton University and recipient of the Alpha Rho Chi graduation medal. Toon is a certified LEED AP and a member of the American Institute of Architects and was inducted into the RAIC College of Fellows in 2016. He leads the company in project development and is responsible for award winning projects in infill development, as well as laboratory, research, industrial and high profile projects. Architects DCA is a company with roots dating back more than 40 years, and is ISO 9001:2015 Certified.

He served 6 years on OAA Committees before joining The Ontario Association of Architects Council where he served for 6 years, 2 as President. Toon continues to serve on various committees and boards.

He leads the company’s activism in the role of the built environment in social justice, gender equity, fiscal responsibility and the role of architects in a strategic, visionary, and thoughtful planning role for infrastructure investments. Toon is a recognised public speaker and published author in local and national media. He has been featured on CBC Radio, the Globe and Mail, Ottawa Citizen and other news publications.

Saulo holds degrees in Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism together with an MBA in Business. He is a regular speaker at MIPIM, TEDx, ENIC, Conecta Imobi and several GRI Club events, including the International Bar Association – IBA Annual Real Estate Investments conference.

Nominated for Ernst & Young’s EOY – Entrepreneur of the Year Emerging Award in 2018 and 2019, he is also President of Nova Urbanismo and Director and board member of Suassuna Fernandes Engenharia S/A.

Glen Brewer is an executive with over 25 years of experience in the design and construction industries. He is a current IDC board member, representing Industry. Glen is also IDC’s Industry committee chair and leads IDC’s Sales Professionals Training Courses. Glen is a strong advocate for designers and the design community as an author, teacher, and presenter for IDCEC CEUs. He is an active participant in IDC’s national DesignEX shows as both a speaker/presenter and table-top attendee. Glen’s many National speaking engagements include events like the Building Show, IIDEX, and various TTMAC events. Glen also mentors and speaks to many emerging design professionals, most recently at Conestoga College. As President of Midgley Tecnica, Glen, along with the support of his company, is a strong advocate of IDC as an Industry Partner member.

A professional engineer with 17 years of experience representing manufacturers in the residential and commercial building sectors. Russell spent the first half of his professional career in the renewable energy sector before transitioning into fenestration. Russell is now the Technical Manager at VELUX Canada where his team is responsible for commercial business development, building code compliance, product and project support and after sales support. Russell is a LEED AP and the first Active House Verifier in North America. Russell and his family lived in an Active House for 6 months, monitoring and the sharing the experience. Russell’s advocacy for the inclusion of the indoor environment in high performance buildings had him volunteer for the Canadian Home Builder’s Net Zero Council and co-organize the recent Active House Symposium in Toronto.

He is also the author of the books “Luxury Listing Specialist” and “Marketing Luxury”.

Throughout his career, Michael learned the importance of high-caliber marketing versus “traditional marketing”, which has become pivotal to his success. Over the past seventeen years, LaFido and his team have developed a method that takes a more comprehensive, and proactive approach when marketing a home.

Michael, the founder of the Marketing Luxury Group, assisting other real estate agents and affluent home-owners by providing top-tier services including consulting, lifestyle marketing, public relations and coaching to help agents and owners sell their luxury homes; utilizing our proven and reputable strategies. The Marketing Luxury Group has been recognized as the ‘Best Property Consulting/Marketing’ in 2018 by the International Property Awards!

Michael has created the nationally recognized luxury certification for real estate agents which is known as Luxury Listing Specialist (LUXE). This new certification establishes an in-depth and detailed set of standards for agents that represent luxury homes, and is currently offered for 12 hours of Continuing Education (CE) for real estate agents in Texas. The trainings are based on the same principles Michael outlines in his book, “Luxury Listing Specialist” that he teaches to agents across the world.

Many agents within the industry are calling Michael’s methods “The New Standard” for marketing luxury homes today.

Stuart graduated from Canterbury in 1981 with a degree in graphic design. He went on to work in London as an art director.

Stuart then spent three years in Spain working in international marketing before launching an overseas property buyers’ protection scheme in 1988. This led him to publish his first magazine listing Spanish property which rapidly expanded to feature properties across the world. Negotiations with some of the world’s leading airlines encouraged them to carry the magazine for their first and business class passengers. In 1994, Stuart launched the International Property Awards. The International Hotel Awards followed in 2011.

Michael Singleton

Executive Director of Sustainable Buildings Canada

As Executive Director of the not for profit organization, Sustainable Buildings Canada (SBC), Mike Singleton has more than 25 years experience as an energy economist focused on policy, resource planning and environmental performance. In his role as Executive Director of SBC, Mike is focused on building capacity through the use of hands-on activities aimed at demonstrating the potential to improve environmental performance in the buildings sectors through the application of advanced technologies and designs. SBC has been instrumental in establishing the use of the integrated design process to achieve energy performance. A key aspect of this approach is the alignment of developer expectations with market based solutions.

Mike’s previous experience includes senior positions at Ontario Hydro, Senior Economist at Jacques Whitford Environment Ltd and Director of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Centre. He has provided expert witness support in energy efficiency focused regulatory proceedings in Ontario and Quebec.

Shawn W. Pressley joined Salice America Inc. in September 2014 as the Director of Marketing for both Salice America and Salice Canada. Prior to joining Salice he was a Marketing Products Manager at Blum Inc. He is responsible for the marketing, communications and product management of both companies and his duties include strategic business development, media relations, branding, advertising and website content.  Shawn also manages and oversees trade shows, events, marketing and  product training.
